If you check the status of DM after the end of a season, you will notice they don't score many goals, don't shoot, don't dribble, don't give many assists and don't participate too often in defensive movements. The only thing they excel is at passes made per match. That's the reason why they have low scores, because they don't do actions that increase score.
However, that doesn't mean DM are useless. When your team is in possession, Roaming Playmakers will move to positions where they can receive the ball unmarked. That means the main role of RPM is to give passing options, allowing you to keep possession and transition to attacking movements. If you didn't have RPM, your players would often be without options for passing, having to either try a longer and riskier pass, try to dribble or pass the ball back to defenders. In other words, RPM allows you to play safer when in possession, and that helps you have a solid defense. When out of possession, they will go back to cover central positions, forcing opponents to attack through the flanks. |
