Hi ZaZ, I have been testing pretty much all the tactics available across fmArena, FMScout etc.. howe ...
Palmeiras won Copa Libertadores last year with three defenders, but one of them was a wing-back (Joaquín Piquerez). When Palmeiras had possession, both wing-backs would advance and play like wingers, while Piquerez would stretch the field to cover the flank. It's also what happen with many European teams, but I piqued up that match because it was very good tactically.
In real life tactics with three defenders, they usually have one WCB (defender that plays like wing-back when team has the ball), then the team becomes asymmetrical depending on the side of attack. Unfortunately, FM didn't do a good job implementing that role, so tactics with three defenders are not that great. For that to work, the wing-backs should also become more aggressive when their team has possession, but it doesn't seem like their behavior change when you use WCB.
In other words, tactics with three defenders don't work in FM22 because the engine isn't planned around that. They are trying to improve, but didn't manage to get there yet. |
